On 1 June 1985, I played in a football match at Wembley Stadium. A curtain-raiser before the Freight Rover final between Brentford and Wigan Athletic.

I turned out for LBC Radio against an England side that included players from the 1966 World Cup-winning team – including Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst – and playing alongside George Best. That’s me in the picture above leaving Bobby Moore (left) and Alan Mullery (right) standing as I head the ball past Peter ‘The Cat’ Bonetti in goal.

The match was held in aid of the Bradford Disaster Appeal, following the fire a few weeks before at Bradford City’s Valley Parade stadium in which 56 spectators lost their lives, and more than 260 others were injured.
